What are good and bad fats?

You may have heard of “good” versus “bad” fats. Although some diets write off fats entirely, there are actually several sources of good fats that promote good health, rather than detract from it. Good fats are poly- and monounsaturated. They lower total cholesterol by increasing your good cholesterol and decreasing your bad cholesterol.

Bad fats include saturated and trans fats. They are the opposite of good fats in that they raise total cholesterol, including the bad kind.

To help you maintain your proper cholesterol levels, you should speak to a nutritionist about how to distinguish between bad and good fats. For more information, contact a Chicago health specialist from B4 Health & Fitness today at 773-251-4619.
